MEDICO Formulary in development.

The Operating Board of MEDICO continues to work on our formulary determining what meds are most appropriate and best used in Central America in providing the humanitarian care MEDICO provides.  There are many factors to consider when determining our formulary and our medical committee is working diligently with the staff of MEDICO to determine cost feasibility, accessibility, redundancy, over-all usage, transportability, and more.  Thank you to all who have contributed thus far in helping this formulary to take shape.  It is a work in progress!

MEDICOblog in play.

As with all communication, usage is everything.  To ensure visitors to MEDICO and veterans of MEDICO have the most comprehensive and current information about MEDICO, we've developed a blog site that is managed through the MEDICO offices.  It is updated at least once per week, typically on Monday afternoon, and features the 'hottest' topic @ MEDICO.  Please be sure and visit the site for information and commentary that benefits you!

Pulling back.

MEDICO has graciously been accepting donations of medicines from donors in the community of Georgetown since our inception.  Over the years we've accepted medicines of virtually every type, often time, donations that include opened prescriptions, partially consumed goods and others.  At the close of 2006 we cleaned out our warehouse which revealed scores of medicines that were opened, partially consumed, out of date, and entirely unusable in our field team efforts.  Proper disposal  of these meds has proven difficult and potentially costly.  We are in the process of  determining that the liability for storing these types of meds far exceeds the useful intent and therefore are considering policy to not accept unsolicited medications from persons not participating on field teams.  Meds that are donated through field team participants such as Dr's who bring extra medications for use in the field will still be accepted as these meds are typically consumed on the field team itself.  Expect to see clear policy on this issue in 2007.
